The dark side of C.W.
The title really says it all.
C.W. (Fudge) accidentally drinks a potion (with his coffee) that causes major transformation in his character and appearance. He’s suave with the ladies, crude to service employees and mixes it up with gangsters. Trouble is; he’s informed one bad guy (Val Avery) of a device that’s highly sought after by both the CIA and the Navy and Mark has to save the day.
Quite needless to point out but this is inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson’s “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”. It’s actually rather fun and Alan Fudge must have had a ball here; getting to completely turn his mild mannered and formal character on it’s head.
Do I need to say “silly” one more time in my reviews for this show? It seems rather redundant as it’s clear by this point that the series was all over the place; using time travel at will and even resorting to a Romeo and Juliet re-imagining to scare up an adventure for our aquatic hero. And here we have another literary classic being spotlighted as, it seems, the writers were short on original ideas.
But in the spirit of harmless, and quite campy, fun; “C.W. Hyde” makes for relatively pleasant 48 minute viewing. Fudge is having fun, Val Avery gives a good turn as the bad guy and Michele Carey is an absolute stunner as Avery’s girlfriend.
As before; this is very kid-friendly. The goons here are rather cartoonish and Mark quite easily overpowers them. It even ends with the Avery seeing the errors of his ways; actually a pretty funny scene.
