It's all very silly, the action is pretty sedate and, once again, the denouement is very underwhelming.
The man from Atlantis with Patrick Duffy

Underwater air breathers

Mark enters a force-field at the bottom of the ocean and discovers some weird air breathers who mine a whole lot of crystals that wield considerable power. Schubert has followed Mark there and maneuvers the natives to mine the crystals for him.

I had trouble staying awake for this one. Again; an imaginative episode but those natives sure look weird and have a strange clicking sound as their language (but can switch to English when they’re speaking to Mark).

Schubert is back (and I checked – it’s his last appearance) and he has a new sidekick (Rene Auberjonois), and he’s got a gadget that can will the natives to work for him and blind Mark.

It’s all very silly, the action is pretty sedate and, once again, the denouement is very underwhelming. There are OK sets here and the underwater sequences are still impressive; otherwise there’s little to recommend this one.

Victor Buono is a fun actor and Schubert is a memorable character – but I’m pleased to see the last of him. He’s too clownish, gets far too silly a dialog and his comedic sequences with his sidekicks are not all that funny. I’ll admit that Auberjonois is a better actor than the one who played his previous one but it’s still not funny.

As said; had trouble staying awake and chances are you will too.

I mostly enjoy writing about films that fit into the category „Cult“ in one way or another. It‘s, frankly, where my comfort zone lies. It would be easy to just focus on horror films (by far the most films labeled „Cult“ are horror films) but the category also includes so many films that are really un-classifiable. Many of these movies are so truly enjoyable and you don‘t even know exactly why. These are often films that are considered very poor, very cheap, very amateurish and some are just plain old studio films that got panned or performed very poorly when released. This is the stuff I like to write about and I hope you like reading about.
